Another fab country!
Siem Reap is a nice city with a population of 200,000 people. It's a great location for exploring the Temples that are in the area.
The city has a nice vibe and is very safe, lots of markets, shops and good restaurants.
Cambodian people are very friendly too. The cuisine is tasty with a bit of spice but not too much.
We visited the ancient city of Angkor Thom which contains lots of temples. We got to see Bayon temple in the exact centre of the city built in the 12th century by the king for himself. We also got to see the temples he built for his mother and father which are all very impressive. Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie was filmed in the temple he built for his mother.
We also got to see the amazing Angkor Wat which is the biggest of all temples and is thought to have taken 30 years to construct.
The following day we had a morning boat trip up the river to see how the locals live in a village called Kampong Phluck. The river meets with the Tonle Sap lake which is South East Asia's largest freshwater lake. The villagers live in floating houses and also have a floating school for the children and a floating police station. We got to see the locals fishing, kids learning how to swim and playing with kites by the river. This was a great experience.
Our last stop was the killing fields which is now a monastery for those killed during The civil war - really sad to see. 3 million people were killed during the civil war here.
It's great to see Cambodia developing now with all the new resorts and lots of tourists visiting.
