Today we went to the Cu Chi Tunnels, begun by the Viet Minh in the 1940's, this incredible network of tunnels once stretched 210 miles and contained extensive Viet Cong infrastructure including tactical HQ actually running right under a US army base !!
We learned all about the cat and mouse search of the US military trying to find the Vietnamese in the tunnels and the ways they would trap the US troops with the most horrible man traps. You will see pics of us in the tunnels.
We then headed back to the city to visit the former Presidential palace, the post office designed by Eiffel and the Notre Dame Cathedral and then onto to China town and the war museum.
In the evening we went to dinner at a great Vietnamese restaurant and onto to the night market open until 12am. After the night market we went to the famous Rex hotel where the American officers hung out during the Vietnam War. We drank large Tiger beer until after midnight when they shut the lights out and politely asked us to leave. The rooftop bar overlooked the entire city of Ho Chi Minh and had a fantastic view. We shut it down! Off for a flight to Danang tomorrow.
