Not much to report...did laundry with Helena (and acquired a mysterious pair of women's underpants in our load), had chili for supper, talked to Mom on the phone. In the evening I hung out at the hostel with the Polish girl, whose name I've finally discovered is Ula (short for Urszula, which is actually a pretty name if you say it in Polish). She's quite a thinker. She says she can't live in Poland for too long at a time because it's a melancholy country. (Though Katherine reports that her Polish co-workers have a slightly strange sense of humour.)

Afternoon...went out with Carla and listened to jazz for a while, but the pub was very hot, so we left and parted ways. I got to talk to Arvin on the phone--always a treat. Then went out with Rashelle and her Newfie flatmates to a small pub called Hole in the Wall, which had four extremely crowded rooms. I left early, and discovered Katherine had come by the hostel to talk to Ryan while he tended the desk, so I walked her part of the way home. (Not because I thought she was in danger, but because the weather was still unpleasant and it's a long walk alone in the rain.) Then I tended the desk while Ryan did some errands (not all related to the hostel). See? See? I can do reception. I did learn, though, that both Katherine and Carla hate their jobs. So working a minimum-wage job just to be in Ireland isn't all it's cracked up to be.

This was still the weekend...it's a bank holiday in Ireland, though I don't know why. Finally got photos on CD and uploaded them to my travelogue, up to Sept. 21 (Connemara). Actually I ended up using my USB cable since it was much easier than navigating the slideshow program on the CD. Anyway, this was a long-awaited development and I had about 80 photos!

Hung out with Katherine in the evening...La Salsa for supper, then watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind at her place with Joe, Tom, and Katherine's Californian flatmate Neika. I'd seen it before, but that was okay, because it's a bit of a mystery. It's still pretty confusing the second time, but it seems more expressionistic and less random.
