Have been here in the Argentine for less than three weeks and already I am loosing track of time and place. Must get away from these crowded cities and find a slower pace of life. After Bahia Blanca where the city smoke, fumes and noise are getting to the stage where Kula Lumpur seems peaceful, the town of Siera del Ventana gave us a brief respite, the air was clean and fresh in the mountains and the traffic fumes dispersed into the wide open spaces. Much to my regret there was little I could do in the way of walking, those mountains are steep and rocky and strictly for the strong youth with loads of energy to spare, pity they could not spare some for me!
A night bus saw us return briefly to B.A. the hub of this giant country. I found it quite refreshing to be somewhere that was slightly familiar but one day was enough to organise a getaway to yet another dot on the map, this time Rosario was the target.
Arrived equipped with our LP guide to the hostel of their choice, "A clean hotel with balconies, baths and TV etc.etc. It was a dirty, grubby, noisy, worn out dump and had an owner that was as cheerful as old Nick, it was a NO NO place. To add to our discomfort a chatty cab driver fleeced us triple fare. The next cabby was just the opposite and restored our faith in the people, he drove us to five further hotels until we eventually found one with a vacancy, it took him 45 mins, several miles and stops yet his charge was just12 pesos (2pounds).
Rosario is a big city with a big city problems, I will report on it later in some detail in the meantime "keep a troshing" back at home and I will "keep a wombling" down here in the sun. I will also get you up to date on the costs so you fellow travllers can make your plans. Byeeee Peter
