We wanted to go see the Whangarei Falls (What's in a name...), but if we had relied on Chrissy to get us there we would have ended up an hour further north at the Haruru Falls. Despite having being in Whangarei multiple times herself, Chrissy didn't even know there were any falls in Whangarei. In the end however she agreed that it was a very pretty waterfall :)

Thankfully we had Yoda to consult on how to get there (our GPS uses Yoda's voice to give its instructions for driving :P) and we arrived safely in Whangarei...
Before going to the falls we went to the Whangarei Marina for a quick lunch and there Martijn had a shocking experience. The ketchup they supplied with the meal was actually mostly made out of apples (a cost saving measure Chrissy said)... And you can TASTE that!
Initially he didn't believe Chrissy when she said the ketchup on table was the cheap kind MADE OF APPLES... But after trying it the horror truly hit home!!! Lesson learnt: Do not doubt Chrissy, even if what she says sounds LUDICROUS!!!

Then it was onwards to the main reason for the drive, the falls themselves. A very impressive stream plummeting over a cliff into a little lake that drains away in a small stream.

We went on a little walk that allowed us to see the falls both from above and below and it was really a shame we had already eaten, because below the falls in front of the lake would have made a great spot for a picnic.

While Trude found a nice relaxing spot at the table down by the lake, Martijn and Chrissy both went off along the lake edge, hopping from rock to rock, to try for some good and unusual pictures of the waterfalls and its surroundings. Chrissy was the more succesful one in this venture as she found some rather cool finger-like rocks that we all agreed on were rather cool :)

On the way back home we swung by Waipu Cove for a short walk on the beach (Chrissy sure knows many beaches!!!).

Ketchup
Mooie foto,s ik hou van watervallen en stranden. Wat zal die ketchup vies zijn geweest als je tomaten wil proeven en je krijgt er appels voor in de plaats.
Of viel het toch nog te eten. groetjes mama

Yoda and Dumb Birds
I kinda miss Yoda - at junctions in the road I keep hearing this gravelly voice say 'LEFT you must turn then RIGHT you must bear' :P
I also cant see a 'dumb bird' (pukeko) without thinking of you guys :)
