Flag of New Zealand  , North Island,
Wednesday, March 4, 2009

We've been told that any trip to New Zealand should involve at least 1 Lord Of The Rings location. So we figured we might as well get it out of the way early on.

It actually was quite nice and a very picturesque place to wander around. A guided tour is the only way you can get close up to the remaining Hobbit-holes and it took about 2 hours. The highlight was of course going inside Bag End even if the inside of it was nothing like what we saw in the movies as those were filmed on a studio set in Wellington. The surroundings themselves (including the party tree and the lake (go re-watch the movie if this is not familiar :P) are gorgeous to just soak up.

We also got our first sourvenir at Matamata, namely the beer (called SobeRing Thought) that the actors drank during filming so that they could still have a cool refreshing beer, but not be completely drunk while on camera :P The beer is only 1% strong and we haven't actually tried it yet, but Trude suspects that it will not make it back home (It's in the fridge right now........).
