Hi folks
The last month was one of the most exiting ones in my whole live. I signed on in Rotterdam where we loaded a power plant for south Africa. From there we proceeded to a small port in Irland called Fenit. This one was really an original Irish village with 2 pubs and nothing else. We loaded 2 container gantrys there and I wonder why they produce them there. From Fenit we traveled 17 days to Durban ( south Africa) where we got rid of the gantrys. Sounds simple but loading and discharging them took us about 4 days of hard work and a lot of scratches over the entire body. My normal work day at a harbor starts at 6 am and ends around 8-10 pm. So I really enjoyed the long sea passage where I only had to do my normal 8 hours at the bridge. We had a bit of bad weather in the beginning but nothing to be scared off. In Durban we had a problem with stowaways ( people who hide on board to immigrate to another "better" country. These stupid people where hiding in one of our cranes and we only found them by luck. After finding them we had to search the whole ship for 2 hours. Not much time normally but after 14 hours working it sucks.
3 days ago we reached capetown and finished discharging yesterday night. So today we decided do do something special. So the chief officer booked an half an hour helicopter flight around the cape of good hope and the table mountain. It was amazing and the pictures will follow with my next travelouge. Until then take care
