Thursday 2nd October.
We left the big cities behind today to enter the picturesque countryside of Austria.  From the dock a local guide took us for an hours stroll through one of Austria's smallest towns Durnstein only 931 inhabitants.  There we visited the landmark an Augustinian Abbey Church.  Then on to Melk to see the Benedictine Abbey - for over 900 years monks have continually lived & worked there.  There is also a College within with approx. 750 students - truly amazing - you will have to wait for the photos!  In the evening we had wine-tasting from the area followed by dinner and then a 'Roll over Beethoven' Music Quiz which we won with a little help from our friends and won 2 bottles of local vintage - sorry won't fit in the luggage - will have to consume it while on board.
Thank you Elizabeth for all the news and photos, they have come through really well.
Love to all, Win & Maureen
p.s. We are going to send the blogs in smaller instalments & see if this works.
