I already wrote a couple entries back about Auchan, the Wal-Mart-esque super marché with a Flunch that packs a punch built into the side. I mean not to deceive you, though, Auchan is not the preferred super marché of the University of Pau student body. Rather, tout le monde shops at Leclerc, which is an even more Wal-Mart-esque super marché located just across the street from campus. My friend Hyan expressed her preference for Auchan, declaring it to be the Target of Pau. It must be the national sentiment in the U.S. that within the oligopoly, Wal-Mart is the villain, Target is for whatever reason the good guy, and K-Mart... wait, wasn't K-Mart supposed to whither away with Martha Stewart or something?

Anyway, after doing a little grocery shopping at Auchan today, I decided that I actually do prefer it over Leclerc. More choices. Similar prices. Happenin poissonerie. Great boulangerie. Auchan has simply got it goin on. Not quite as much as Stacy's mom, I might add, but if I had to break it down for you, it would be impossible to deny that Stacy's mom has got a lot going on. Auchan, not quite so much, but a formidable quantity nonetheless. Honorable mention goes out to Genghis Kahn, who, as history has shown, certainly had a lot goin on, but--just by a hair-- not quite as much as Auchan.
