Wow, what an amazing place, the Southern tip of Vietnam is made up of 3 or 4 peninsula's split by the mighty Mekong river so my plan was to drive up and down them and take small ferry crossings where i could find them and just see and stay wherever seemed suitable....

The whole area of the Mekong is thriving; with life, people, wildlife, greenery and just an energy and warmth you don't find anywhere else in Vietnam. I've briefly noticed areas like this before, either Mekong/river areas or coastal places, there's a noticable difference between areas connected to water in some way but with the Mekong there just seems to be that something extra involved....

The whole place feels like The Caribbean. There's a perfect climate which is warm yet slightly breezy. The whole place is glowing and feels as if its been modeled, its just so picturesquely perfect. There's palm trees lining every road and all kinds of fruit growing everywhere which sells extremely cheaply too and tastes.... well, it has to be the best tasting fruit I've ever had, especially the mangoes, which just melt in your mouth....

On my trip i'd picked my own bits of fruit occasionally but on this trip i actually tried some sugar cane. No doubt it was private property but i'd seen the sugar cane machines make the drinks a million times so i thought id just break one off and sample it.... easy to do but in breaking the branch i got several papercuts from the stringyness of the stem itself but after some difficulty breaking off the outer membrane i had 5 blissful moments just sucking all that natural sugar out to the amazement of many passing motorcyclists...!

I have noticed a certain 'comfortableness' about being in SE Asia, a familiarity like i'm here yet belong here and don't feel at all out of place or like i am just travelling which i guess comes with being here so long now, but i can happily be stuck in the middle of a crowd, all eyes on me and just feel no different, though the reality still is that i must stand out like a big white sore thumb..!

After a few days and with a sudden sense of great achievement and accomplishment, i made it to Rach Gia, some 100km or so from Cambodia and my next adventure.....

It's 106km to Cambodia,
I've got half a bottle of suncream,
a full tank of fuel,
its boiling hot,
and i'm wearing jeans....

HIT IT!
