Good evening to ye all from Mue Ni about 1/4 up the South eastern coast of Vietnam. The idea so far has been to travel up the coast a bit, covering what i may potentially miss later if i do the inland motorbike trip down the Ho Chi Min Trail though that trip is still an unknown and to date i have found that i could only get UK insurance if i took my CBT in the UK and got insurance in the UK... i know laos and thailand offer local insurance but i need to check on what cover is actually offered so at the moment it may be that i next go to Laos or to Laos via Cambodia where i will buy a bike and apparently have no problems, other than a small border fee, taking the bike in to Laos, Cambodia and Thailand and also Malaysia, its just Vietnam and Vietnamese registered bikes that seem to be the problem which has taken some finding out but finally i think i know what i can do...

So Mue Ni is really the start of a beautiful stretch of coastal beauty and though quite small, the beach here is very beautiful. Only 5 hours on a bus, the journey was not bad and on arrival i ask the bus driver if he knows a cheap hotel as the LP guides cheapest option is $10 but he has one at $7 and it turns out to be really good, only 2 bungalows but right on the beach and the owner speaks good English. I was only here for one day so i hired a motorbike that night from my hotel and headed down the main strip just to see what was around; resorts, restaurants and tour operators filled the 3 or 4km strip so nothing exciting...

Next day i headed off to try and find a waterfall only 1km away using a map from the guesthouse but as usual i was lost withing 10 minutes so i decided to head off to find these local inland red and also a set of white sandunes where apparently you can hire a sledge and sledge down the snow. I found the red ones OK but on arrival was just mobbed by locals trying to sell things and hire out sledges but they were a nightmare, like leeches and so i just wandered up, had a look and then thought i would try the white ones and leaving was like the scene from Terminator 2 with the new terminator running after and diving on the car to stop them leaving, it was crazy but decide to go on but after about 30 minutes i realised i couldnt find the others but really, all it was was sand! not that exciting so i decided to head back. I find most of the toursity sites are pretty mundane but sometimes there's no way of telling until you try - i am as happy just being somewhere as opposed to seeing the focal points of the place...

On the way back i tried the waterfall again but again no luck but decided  i would just drive off, get lost and then ask to find my way back and it proved a great choice, driving through these small, well, not even villages, more like collections of small houses with many waves and smiles and i remember one old guy walking a long stretch on his own, no shoes, white hair and wirey body and as i passed him i gave him a big smile, and got the best smile back, like he was the Vietnamese gurning champion but best of all he had no front top or bottom teeth..! That would have been a good photo... when i got back though i was pretty tired as again last night i was itching loads and so i guessed it was again a bed with mites maybe?! but was slightly paranoid i still had something from that hotel back in Saigon but my room had 2 beds and the next night i had no problem so yes it was the bed - so from now on i have decided to always use my sleeping bag liner and regularly wash it just in case. But yeah, when back i was pretty tired so i thought i'd make the most of the beach and crash out so headed to a hammock they had up between two palm trees on the beach front and climbed aboard. Laid, and looking forward to nodding off, i looked up to see that the tree nearest my head had a coconut directly above and all i could think was that, although the chances of that falling in the slight breeze there was, it was pretty slim it could actually happen and everytime my eyes closed they opened again to check this coconut but eventually i must have nodded. I then awoke dazed, confused and in some pain and on opening my eyes i still had the same sky and palm tree view and still half asleep couldnt quite compute what was wrong and if the coconut had indeed fallen and hit me but then i felt something under my arm; it was my book which was below on the sand, so i realised i was on the beach and so i looked round to find the hammock had snapped where my head was attached and i had dropped down about 4ft and hit the sand which is why my head and back were hurting so much. It was like when you are woken up really abruptly and dont know where you are for a while but in pain  too! Strange at first but i saw the funny side soon after - its strange having a funny moment like this only to look round and realise your on your own and no one to share it with but this is only a small downside to what is a great way to travel i think...

Anyway next morning i take a bus  to Nha Trang, apparently party town of Vietnam, on a 5 hour journey and arrive around 5pm for a 2 day stay....

Delly on

I've gotta say bro, I laughed my socks off when I read this blog - how histerical that you collapsed in the hammock hahaha! Glad you didnt do any real damage of course (probably knocked more sense into you if anything haha) - and it was a moment which happened alone, but I feel like I was there with you, peeing my pants laughing as you look bewilderingly at the coconuts above! And by the way the number of people that get killed by falling coconuts each year is crazy high, so for future ref dont sleep under any coconuts either hahhaha!

This place looks stunning, but concerned about the itching though - bed bugs were common when I travelled, so yes sleep in your cocoon of a sleeping bag liner always, even if you're hot! If it doesn't improve you need to get yourself and all your stuff treated with proper stuff, ball ache but necessary unfortunately.

Stay in touch, and send an updated pic if YOU wanna check you're not wasting away... lil sisters perogative so please fulfil the request :)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx really miss you ya know x
