Where I stayed
Sugar Cane Hotel

i am now about 3 hours north in Kanchanaburi, it seems a little more laid back but is again just one big street of stray dogs, bars, massages, food vendors and scooters!! Set off first thing, found basic but cool bamboo hut cabins at Sugar Cane Hotel for 250DB (fiver) a night and found it from lonely planet book though it listed it as 150DB but the book is 2009.... so either prices have gone up a bit since then as i am finding this 10 quid budget tough, or its still high season so prices are high but high season ends Feb so maybe its just a wind down.... apparently its gonna get hotter now heading north is the right idea. Its about 35 degrees aveage here but just right especially now i am finding i am not carrying the bag long as its a bus or train, tuk tuk and bag drop off and then out... Made me laugh at the hospital other day when i went to wrong building and they drew me a map of where to go, literally down one street and up the next and i said is it far to walk? and she laughed and said its too far, 1km...! basically cos of the heat!! But i didnt mind even with the big bag but i am starting to learn to just get a tuk tuk for not even 1 quid tho sometimes the language barrier and haggle factor are a hassle...

So plan to stay here for 3 days, today i arrived about dinner, had some food, laid on bed and fell asleep til 5pm!! and could have slept on but made myself get up, come out, have a look and will get something to eat and will crash again later and just know i will be out like a light again! Not sure if its just from the travel and build up to the trip still or just  that sense of getting here, having no responsibilites, just me myself and I and i am just on complete wind down - whatever, i need it and i am starting to enjoy it more esp now out of Bangkok and got those jabs sorted... I have even done 2 workouts since here and thats when so tired, finding it possible in the room with the fan or air con to do situps, pressups etc but tried skipping and no way!! exhausted after a few goes, so cardio is a no but others are OK....

In the 3 days here i am,inc today, i am hiring a cycle for the next two days to bike to someof the sights; its main sights are from WWII as it was a miltary focal point here and the biggest site is the Bridge Over The River Kwai. I am doing a 4 hour retrun train trip over the bridge, now called Death Railway!, and only for 100DB (2 quid) which ill do Tuesday and tomorrow i am going to the tiger temple where can see and even sit with and stroke tigers?! (if this is my last post you knowwhy...!) and inbetween there are war cemetries and waterfalls and stuff which i am gonna bike to inbetween. Then its on to Sanghklaburi, 6 hours north by bus which i will be doingfirst thing Tuseday...

So my plan from there on;  its from the LP book and its a good one as you can probably see so far, travelling up eastern side of Thailand up to Chang Mai via about 5 or 6 stops... you can only do it by bus and buses take ages but it will be quieter and more hippy like the further i go and there will be chance for day trip to Burma (Myanamar), some volunteering at an orphange at my next stop, and treks and stuff like that. Then in Chang Mai is where i might try a cooking course, you can learn Thai boxing too! and gonna try watch a match and bet too!! and there are buddhism/meditation type courses and also from here i can book to stay with some hill tribes and do the elephant treks too.... all sounds great and should fill my time until 26th March when come back to Bangkok for flight to Cambodia.

Oh yeah, did i mention that the airlines or Thai airport never asked for or checked for a visa or proof of onward travel?! after all that!! Anyway, got my flight and route sorted so chuffed there. Plan is from there to go to vietnam and then north to Laos ....

OK, time to go buy some street vendor food - which is amazing by the way!!, have a few beers and crash ready for the tigers tomorrow! rarrrgghhh..x
