Much to my dismay, I have not had time to update this since we got here. Right now we are on a break between sessions at the conference. The next session is on lung cancer, which I am sure will be more interesting than mucositis (which is not interesting at all nor is it relevant to my work here).
We had dinner at La Fontanelle on Wednesday night and a fantastic anniversary dinner at the three Michelin Star La Pergola last night. Both were beyond my wildest expectations. I'm at an internet kiosk in the conference center right now so I can't post a detailed description, but it will be coming tonight. Just wait until you hear about the cheese cart!
I was very much struck by the romance of the Spanish Steps area as I walked through the area this morning at 7:30am on the way to the Metro to come to the symposium. Of course that could just be because I had an espresso 2 minutes before, but the sun was reflecting off of St. Peter's Basilica, it was so early that the vendors and artists had not arrived yet, and this is, after all, Rome.
That is all for now. I'm sorry to disappoint you - I know you're anxiously awaiting a description of the food we've had so far. I promise that is coming, along with pictures. All I can say for now is that the espresso is tremendous. The gelato is good, but not as awe inspiring as I had heard. That is okay though, because the coffee is enough. Ciao!
