Where I stayed
Squaw Valley Resort
After a quick night's stay in Sacramento (and no Governator sightings darn it) we headed to Lake Tahoe. It was a glorious drive and we end up high in the mountains in the lovely little town of Tahoe City. We had a scenic, albeit expensive lunch overlooking the lake, and then headed to the resort where we were going to stay. Through Priceline I got a great rate on the Squaw Valley Resort which is the valley near Squaw Valley Olympic Village. Jim and I stayed here about 5 years ago and just loved it, so I was thrilled that the boys could get to experience it. After checking in, we hit the road for a leisurely drive around the lake. OK not all around the lake because it is huge, but to a particularly scenic part that Jim and I had visited and fell in love with.
It's a pretty scary road at times-very narrow and very steep, but the views are worth the drive. we went high above the lake and looked into a cove that has a huge waterfall and a wild Viking hall an eccentric woman built in the early 1900's. She also built a wild tea room high on a hill on an island in the lake.
After sticking our feet in the stream and oohing and aahing over the view (me of course, not the boys), we headed back to the resort and opt for hanging out there to swim and watch the Lakers /Celtics game at the resort's pub. It was fun and we cheered along with the other rowdy folk in the pub. My Lakers pulled it out while the Celtics lost, much to the chagrin of the boys!
