August September Update: Hurricane
Earl

Well thanks to Dylan we have pretty
much updated Windwalker from a bay sailer to a Blue Water Cruiser.
We left Pleasure Cove Marina Monday 30th August, bound
for New York City. As you probably know as we were leaving, the
news was all about the Hurricane building in the Carribean.

With our destination being open exposed
waters and the Hurricane strengthening, we decided to find a nice
hiding place in the Chesapeake till Earl sorted himself out.
Consequently we motored into Worton Creek after trying to get get
into Fairlee Creek, which is way to narrow and as we discovered even
shallower.

Now we sit in the Sassafras River near
Georgetown a few miles further North and closer to the C&D
channel, that we will navigate to Delaware Bay and then out to the
Ocean at Cape May New Jersey. We were boarded by the Coast Guard on
our way in for our first inspection, which all went well. So we are
getting to experience everything all at once it seems.

We are now fully on our own power and
independent of outside supplies etc. Except for the occasional trip
to a Bar in Georgetown to watch TV for news of
course.

We have very limited communications now
and are mainly relying on our sail mail for email and weather etc.
To contact us now email to this address vjn3516@sailmail.com

Please only text though and keep them
reasonably short as it is relayed via the radio.

Earl seems to be heading pretty much
into our path if we continue and winds and swell are pretty strong
out there so we will wait him out in Sassafras River till probably
Saturday. All good though this is a really nice anchorage, with the
water temp quite a bit cooler at last and actually almost fresh as
well.
We are only about 40 metres from the
shore here, as the bank drops off really quickly. Skye now has a new
trick and jumps off the back step to swim ashore. As you will get to
see when I can upload pics, she also sits comfortably in the water
resting on Dylan's Surfboard with him. The look says it all, total
bliss.

Dylan is getting to scurf behind the
dinghy quite often now and has developed the off the back step
standing start. My back is about ready for me to try now too.

We will try and upload pics with this
but may have to add them later, due to internet access (via the Yacht
club or the bar
