Feeling trapped into a suburban lifestyle of paying a mortgage and bills. Stressed at work and school every day. Constantly watching the time, feeling naked and lost without your mobile phone and finding yourself planning your social activities weeks, sometimes months in advance just to keep everybody happy.

Have you ever thought about, dreamt about and talked about living differently .... Well, this is one families decision to do something different. Our family is taking a year off the suburban rat race to go sailing around the meditterenean!

We have flights booked for the 24 March 2011, departing from Sydney to southern europe. So with a duffle bag each stuffed with what we think we might need for a year, we hope to land in Croatia, purchase a family sized cruising yacht, move on board and let the wind take us away.

But, but, but..what about work ?....the the the kids schooling ?...what about money ?...and all your stuff..?
Yes, I keep hearing the same questions from everybody so I have two answers for you:

Short answer:

Get over it, your jealous and you just wish you had the balls to do it as well.

Long politically correct answer:

Rachel has resigned, Mark has taken long service leave at half pay and some leave without pay for a period of 1 year. Our three boys David (15), Joshua (13) and Andrew aka 'scruffhead' (10) have been enrolled in Australian distance education schools where they will self-pace their school curriculum requirments under there parents supervision whilst on board. And 'YES' we will have internet, including skype. In relation to money, the trip is being funded through the sale of a house, two cars, 'shogun' our existing 31 footer and my beloved Triumph Bonneville - so 'NO' I didn't just succesfully import and sell a quantity of illegal narcotics. Oh, and we have put our stuff in storage.

So, for those of you in you suburban homes at night watching TV or surfing the internet ,feel free to live your dreams through us on this travel blog site. We hope to upload photo's regularly and keep everyone updated with our adventure !
