Apparently, there is an easier main road into parts of the Black Forrest.  We didn't take it this time either, construction.  There's a joke that the city bird of Stuttgart is the urban crane, fits for much of Germany . . . In the mean time, we're adding to our scenic drives through the Forrest.

Another new learning, though probably shouldn't have been, Triberg is full of tourists, busses and all.  We found parking and a place for lunch just fine.  We did good for lunch, the best pizza we've had yet.  (Note:  haven't been to Italy)  From the windows, we had some great people watching including many near hits of tourists in la-la land trying to get "the shot" from the middle of the street.

From there, we followed the wasserfalle signs towards the gorge, the tallest in Germany.  From the map, it looked like some serious hiking could be had.  Not to worry, we're avoiding such exploits while the twins are in tow.  We walked up to the first bridge, past a Heidi house, stopping at many benches to admire the view along the way.  Tried taking another way down and found a busy high ropes course in the park but found the rest of the path taking a long detour away from the town.  We turned around and got view two of the waterfall on the way down.  During Christmas, they light the falls up.  That would be something to see too.

Back in town, we wandered through the many cuckoo clock and shinken (ham) shops.  We bought the same ham later, in our part of town, for a third of the price.  Couldn't pass up the Black Forrest Cake though, which oddly enough goes by its English moniker here.  This was the one original that we preferred the knock-off of, mostly to do with the kirschwasser (liquor) soaked cake layers.  But, there is something to be said for eating Black Forrest Cake in a cafe in the Black Forrest.

On the way back, we stopped at a farmer's market.  Surprise - everything was so much fresher than what we get in the Commissary; the real surprise was that it was all cheaper too.  We stocked up on berries and the makings for salad.  The apples didn't make it out of the parking lot.  The cherries didn't make it to the next day, the blueberries following soon after.  Might be up for another trek . . .
