Fatty Pork Skin
Next to the central market is this myriad network of malls interconnected within three buildings. I remembered entering from the market street, crossing corridors to adjacent building and finally exiting out to another street. All the shops were still closed but a tiny food court at the top level had deli dishes on display. Feeling adventurous, I ordered a particular Kare-Kare and it turned out to just pork skin drowned in sticky gravy and nothing else except for a serve of rice. How's that for breakfast? I ate some but left the rest remaining on the plate and went out to Chow King for a predictable chinese sausage bun.

The La Carlota Transfer
The plan today - travel to San Enrique and meet up with my colleague Felis at her hometown. The La Carlota bound bus from south terminal tool about a speedy hour to reach San Enrique. But enquiring at San Enrique for accommodation, I quickly discovered that there was none. It is such a small town. So I jeepneyed to La Carlota to try my luck. Two guesthouses were pointed out to me by the locals. CT Inn was locked up for some reason and Sacred Heart Pension House only had available room at 6 pm. Left my backpack there and ventured out for late lunch. Today being Rizal Day - a public holiday, I was surprised to see the town and the market fully opened for business.

Strangely enough there seemed to be a lack of choices for food but I eventually found my lunch in the market. There are not much happening in La Carlota, just your run-of-the-mill country town. The main feature is the spacious basketball court arena in front of the town hall and maybe the market building. The most memorable feature however has to be the tricycles here. Hundreds of them, either lining up after the other or weaving through traffic in a seamless coordinated fashion. The rest of the afternoon was spent in a church and a bakery sipping on chilled juice.

Chargrilled Offals
Managed to check in at Sacred Heart Pension House around 530 pm and had the largest room for 300 php. Unfortunately it was a dump. Litter everywhere on the floor, ants all over the place... I even had to sweep the place myself. It was in fact a dormitory with six spring beds. Fortunately for me, the ceiling fan was powerful enough for a hot and humid day like today. Dinner was a simple affair at a food chain called Merci (I was really after the air conditioning).

The town square was screening back-to-back christmas movies on a giant screen, attracting alot of local children. I sat and watched half of A Christmas Carol before I left looking for supper. Lucky for me, the bbq/beer stations were in business, so I had myself sticks of chargrilled chicken thighs, livers, hearts and intestines. All washed down beautifully with San Miguel light beer except for the intestines. I doubt they even cleaned out the insides before sticking them on the bbq. I had a bite and decided that it was too offalsive to swallow.
