Negros Museum
A short jeepney ride to Negros Museum for a wander. A rather uninteresting collection of yesteryears' artifacts but a separate gallery of international toys (featuring mostly dolls and figures) had my attention, largely also because it was air-conditioned. The museum itself looked tired, uncomfortable and stuffy. Besides being incomplete with some of its displays, the second level had works still in progress. The toy collection however was brilliant. Collected from all corners of the globe, many of them are antique. Geographically presented (almost) behind glass screens, corresponding to the world map wall mural, it began in Asia, across to Europe/Africa and ended at South America. I had the privilege of seeing three dolls from central Asia - female doll figurines draped in ultra conservative islamic burqas. Oppression against women epitomised into something as innocent as a toy doll. I wonder if they still exist outside of this gallery?
 
Seafood Cook Up
The next block up north led me to North Capitol Road. Its star attraction - a wet market for fresh seafood where you can purchase and bring it to restos next door for a cook up of your selection. However, 2 pm was a little early - the fishing boats only return at 5 pm. With that I made my way to SM City mall for a wander. The air-conditioning was really a big factor. Ha! Time passed so slow I even returned to room for a shower. This supercharged humidity was slowing wearing me down. Returned to North Capitol Road at 6 pm, expecting some fantastic display of marine livestock but all they had were tunas, marlins and your usual crustaceans. Bought half a kilogram of prawns at 300 php which I found rather expensive and ventured to the next door resto for a cook up. I was slapped another 100 php for them to prepare my prawns in a chilli garlic recipe. The dish turned out to be spicy yet tasty but overtly sweet.
 
Lechon Baboy
On the way back to room, the city plaza was transformed into a concert stage, getting ready for the Battle of the Bands Semi Finals at 830 pm. Speakers were already blasting with death metal music, setting the tone for tonight's entertainment. The fruit stalls around central market had their colourful produce prominently displayed out on the streets but it was the Lechon Baboy (bbq suckling pig) that caught my eye. One of filipino's most endearing bbq meat right in front of me in full glory. I took some close up shots and casually asked about the price before asking for a sample taste. Given the crispy skin...wow. It really lived up to its legendary reputation.
 
Battle of the Bands Semi Finals
Returned to City Plaza at 830 pm, only to watch the emcee host warming up the audience by giving away rather useless prizes for trivia questions - beer buckets. Really? Who needs a beer bucket when the band are just about to rock out? Give away beer for grog's sake! The trivia went on for ten beer buckets before the first band rocked the stage, busting their chops for 15 minutes of reggae metal. The second band screamed their set through but I guessed my ear drums had enough hammering so I decided to call it a day.
