DIARY EXTRACT: the following is an extract from cobs diary for 5th Jan

Today was music festival day, we were going to watch our mate andrey who we met on the train perform in a singing competition. We set out about 10.15 and headed for the metro, on arrival at our destination station there was 15 minutes to the start of the show. We went the wrong way at first and it was only after a while we realized our error, turned round and were in for a bit of a run trying to make up lost time. We did finally get there on time, but by the time we'd ditched our jackets and bags we were late entering the theater.
As we arrived into the theater we were greated by andrey's mom who usshered us down the isle to be warmly welcomed into the tribe. We were then designated seats next to the family babushka (aka nana) who then became our running translator; without her we would have been totally clueless.
The second performance of the morning was sung in english, which was awesome, dan and i got right into it. Not long after that our mate andrey sung, we didn't need to know what he was singing about he sung a choice russian song and danced around whilst getting the crowd involved with a mid sing clap. One of our other highlights of the show was a 6 girl ensemble singing Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen(see video); maybe it was because it was in english that we liked it or maybe just because they were amazing singers, whatever it was it was fantastic. During the intermission we were formally introduced to the rest of the family. First there was Ma and Pa (met on the train) then Kate (sister) then the cousins, second cousins, cousins friends, uncles and the list goes on. This was choice we felt like we were part of the family.

After the show was over Dan, myself, andrey and five of Russians finest went out for lunch. Sushi was on the cards, with dan having the eel and me having the trusty salmon (i hope); either way we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon in the company of andrey and five lovely young ladies.
