Just had 5 days in Rome, unfortunately only this one photo to share as we had our camera and all our memory cards stolen this morning, so the slide night will be very quick :( We almost missed our train to Naples while we lodged a police report - we caught the culprit, but he had passed the camera to an accomplice who got away on a train, so we marched the one we had down to the cabinieri, who took his details, told us to lodge a report with the Polizei, who told us that it was out of their jurisdiction as it happened in the subway. We went to follow up with the Cabinieri, who had let the guy go, so we walked off to catch our train. The Cabinieri caught up with us on the platform and insisted we log a report back at their van so they could arrest the guy (despite them having no interest earlier). When I refused, as it would be a waste of time, he grabbed me by the arm and started leading me back - it probably looked like I was being arrested to passersby! 20 minutes and one written statement later, we ran for our train which was thankfully 10 minutes late leaving.

Suffice to say the rest of the day had the shine taken off it, especially since Pompeii was the one thing Oliver wanted to do in Italy. We climbed Mt Vesuvius and peered into the crater rim, had an overpriced lunch (terrible pasta at the tourist trap in the Pompeii strip) and toured the ruins, then caught the train back to Naples. Our hotel is best described as "quaint" - a quad share in the main piazza near the train station, aptly named Hotel Ideal (Hotel Perfect is just around the corner!) - but it has good free wi-fi, more than I can say for the 4 star in Rome.

Rome, however, was excellent, great sightseeing at all the popular sights... St Peters Basilica, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon etc. Food was disappointing at our hotel - meat and spinach for every evening meal, so the pizza and gelati shop down the road got lots of customers.

The concerts in Rome went surprisingly well, despite the impression of Italian chaos - big crowd at the Pantheon and they sounded great and have been invited back to Sicily in 2 years with a possibility of singing in The Vatican!

Back to Rome tomorrow, then flying out to Warsaw on DC's birthday.
