With 24 hours till I fly, I'm not meant to dive today. Instead I take it easy in a hammock watching fishermen pass; One boat pulls in with two caught guitar sharks.
A short walk along boardwalks, through Mabul village leads to a jetty. It's the weekend and kids are playing marbles in the sand while parents sing karaoke. The jetty is busy with children launching themselves into the brine. It's a good place to snorkel, above a gradual slope of corals rich with anthias, butterflyfish, triggerfish and anemone fish. I spot a scorpionfish and crocodilefish camouflaged in the sand. (All the top land animals have a fish named after them, with the notable exception of gerbil.)
