Explored Christchurch following the tramline around the city as it went passed the main tourist sites, plus it saved me $15 as the track was only very small. I walked round the Botanic gardens following the river avon and watching people punting along the river. I went to Cathedral Square, saw the small modern cathedral and watched the town speaker shout out a load of information about whats going on in Christchurch over the next couple of days... not a lot.
Following day I took the bus to the gondola ride, which had ok views around canterbury, Littleton Harbour, the extinct volcano and the southern alps in the distance so some different views around.
For some reason on Good Friday everything was closed even the supermarkets, the whole city had come to a complete stand still, really weird everywhere was dead... so didnt really do a lot again.. just went to the botanic gardens and read my book for a while and went back to the hostel and watched a load of films.
Got up at 4.30am to get a shuttle to the airport. Waited outside for my shuttle and watched a prostitute being moved on by the police, which was fairly interesting.. got in the shuttle and the whole road was full of prostitues on each corner.. apparently the road i was satying on is the red district of Christchurch.... Anyway arrived at the airport to find that my flight had been cancelled due to fog... which then cleared up 10 minutes later!! AND flights 20 minutes after mine were still flying on schedule which made no sense to me what so ever. I was told the only other flight I could get on was at 3pm which would have menat I would have missed my flight to fiji. Looked at the other airlines and the cheapest flight was with Air New Zealand and cost me an extra $320 just to get to Auckland! I had to do it as it was the only way I would catch my flight to fiji! I got To Auckland at 9.30 am so ahd 6 hours to wait at the airport which was fun..
