From Geelong we drove down to Torquay and finally found a campsite – everywhere was fully booked for Australia day – we were lucky to get one of the last pitches in a huge campsite and had to stay a minimum of 2 nights but we were in no rush. It was great weather so we went down to the beach and then into town and then had a great BBQ for dinner with a few beers - beer is so expensive i had to buy a crate to get decent value, oh well! We were getting quite into the Aussie way of life!
Australia day (26th Jan) was huge! There was a world record attempt on the beach to get as many people in the water of giant inflatable flip-flops so we watched that for a while (Vicky desperately wanted one but they had sold out by the time we turned up!), and then went for a paddle and a walk down to a great beach where we stayed for a lazy afternoon and had a swim in the water which was surprisingly warm. Everyone at the campsite was enjoying the Australia Day celebrations into the night which was quite amusing to watch!
