Where I stayed
I've spent a week now in Sydney, and it was a complete shock when I stepped off the plane and then when I took my first walk through the city. Being back in a place where you're skin colour is the norm and everyone speaks your language was (briefly) dissorientating. Now it just feels like I could be at home. I've settled into a hostel called Chilli Blue Backpackers, met a couple of new friends, and generally been out every night. Mostly because the hostels run promotions like $100 bar tabs and free BBQ's. My place is located in the backpacker district of Kings Cross, which is a 10/15 minute walk to the city centre. The district is also home to an array of fascinating characters, as its the red light area too!! but I'm enjoying my time here.
So in my first week I've been down to Sydney harbour to see the magnificant bridge and opera house, which is breath taking! I also took a walk through the botanical gardens, where I saw flying foxes (!!), on the way back from Woolloomooloo, an area where all the stars live. I've even eaten from the same hot dog stand as Price Harry and Rolf Harris!!!
It's not all been fun fun fun though...I've already landed myself a new job. Putting my freshly accquired bar skills into action at a lovely place called James Squire Brewhouse. Its situated right on the waterfront at Darling Habour. I've only done a handful of shifts but its got a cracking feel to it. The staff are great, and they provide free food and drinks at the end of the shift!! so im slowly making my way through the massive range of beers we stock. I seem to have picked it all up fairly quickly, but I really don't think theres a need to serve a drink in 3 different sized glasses!
I couldn't blog without mentioning the weather! I can't believe it getting towards December, I can see Christmas trees and decoration, but something about it being 35 degrees just isn't right! Oh well, I'm not complaining...I could be cold in England!
