We left early the next day and stopped off for some time in Como, a gorgeous expensive tourist town on the lake, which features expensive boutiques, some interesting sculptures and a very picturesque setting.

We took the local ferry to Bellagio, which isn't quite as easy as it sounds when the Italian is limited.  When we asked for travel advice the ticket guy told us in exasperated and equally limited English that "thees ees a public transport - not a touriste offeece", but we don't give up that easily and so set off on our ferry trip of about an hour on Lake Como.

James was looking out for the magnificent  lakeside villa where the latest James Bond movie had passed through in one of the critical scenes.  Brian and Jen can't remember the scene too well, but had to admit the villa is spectacular. The ferry wends its way via a number of lakeside towns and villages and on arrival we found that Bellagio is a picture postcard perfect village - the streets are pedestrian only and the cobbled steps climb up the hillside and wind around beautiful old stone buildings. We enjoyed lunch and wine there before heading back to catch the train onward through the Alps and back to Kussnacht am Rigi.
