These few days were always intended to be the "working" part of our "working holiday". So now we have got it over and done with!

We drove to Santa Clara from Healdsburg, making only a token visit to the Petulama Outlet Stores. This year we are experiencing space/weight constraints. Jen remembered last year's visit so well that she confidently bet on the correct exit off the freeway. Memory served her well and though Brian thinks she collected, he is generously letting Jen stretch it out......

San Fran turned on a brilliantly sunny day for us - the drive over the Golden Gate Bridge was beautiful. We felt almost local after Lynton's previous tour; and navigated through downtown San Fran without unscheduled detours, and left town still speaking. The maps must be good - our track record is very good so far on all counts.

On to Santa Clara for the Optionetics OASIS conference where George and Tom  were ecstatic to meet Pirani and Heni at a special lunch held for us international visitors.  (It was Tom and George who founded the business; and with more than 2,000 people at this conference - they should be smiling) Jen was smiling too - during the week the Dow fell by another 300 points and her trading account was unaffected.

This being the fourth OASIS conference that Jen has attended and Brian's second, we had an inkling that the programme would be full-on. We consider it is amazing value- particularly if you compare it to all those really expensive medical events. We were educated from 8.00am throughout the day, until 9.30pm on one evening, with all meals provided and all for under $500 USD. The acronym OASIS hints at water of course, and always in trading options there is an emphasis on liquidity of the market one is trading, but in fact OASIS stands for Optionetics Annual Super Investors Summit, or something very like that anyway.

There was heaps to learn with numerous breakout sessions, and impressive keynote speakers like Jim Rogers and John Murphy who are predicting that the big money will be made in China and in commodities. It was great to meet friends from the previous conferences and to catch up with the instructors who come to NZ. And then you always meet interesting new folk, like the couple from Armadillo Texas ....... "where IS New Zealand REEAALLY??"...(yes, Really, that is the question) Brian was much more into it this year having put some real money on the table and placing a few trades while we were in Canada. His self imposed constraints are that if he loses 50% of a small fund set aside, he's taking his money off the table. Or we drink champagne on the first profit in the account. Watch this space!

The last night at OASIS was Comedy Club - the usual big name line-up, which has featured Bill Cosby and Jay Leno in the past. The featured comedian was Martin Short who is apparently a movie star etc. Jen is never very well informed about the entertainment "names", and Brian wasn't much better informed.  However, despite not having made it onto our radar he lived up to his reputation. Lisa came down for the Comedy Show, and being much better informed, she told us a little bit about him and his past achievements. He has  recently been lead actor in Fame Becomes Me on Broadway. It was a good night to finish off our 3 day working week.
