We drove to Berkeley next day to spend a day with Lisa. Berkely of course is the politically aware campus which saw all the action in the 60's - anti Vietnam war etc...in fact their activism sparked the Free Speech Movement.. As far as a university campus goes, it is also one of the most beautiful we have seen.

Lisa had kindly arranged for us to stay in the "cottage" where she works. Her boss, Elb, and his wife Adrienne generously offered to have us stay overnight.  Adrienne is a family doctor in a practice just south of Berkeley, and it was interesting to see that family/ general practice faces similar issues as we do in NZ.

In Berkeley we attended a very up-market craft fair, and could have spent a lot of $$$. .Some of the most exquisite jewellery was offered for up to USD $3,000. "Small, but Expensive" described a great deal of what was on offer. Needless to say we didn't spend up too big, and this time we couldn't even use the excuse of space and weight. Even the face painting was "up market" - we took up the  photo opportunity        & nbsp;

The resident local squirrel was on site too - encouraged by Lisa having a ready supply of walnuts.

We ate out with Lisa that night at a steak restaurant -        at our request after 3 days of food cooked for 2000 plus people, we wanted a "real" steak.

Lisa picked us up next morning at 6.45am as far as we remember, and took us out to the airport.
