Where I stayed

And before I knew it, I was back at Shanti Lodge in Bangkok, right where I started in March. Nothing had changed. The good food and bad service was still the same. However the counter at the 7-11 over the road had moved to a different corner of the shop, so I guess some progress had been made.

Bangkok. A concrete jungle really. More cars and fewer motorbikes. And not one driver of the latter was without a helmet. More cars, tuk-tuks and rip-offs, but no friendly motodops. Higher buildings and bigger billboards. More choice but fewer smiles. The thing that's really struck me though, having been out of it for 10 months, is the diversity of people. Individuality. I almost forgot it existed!

Thus ends the first chapter. It's back to the airport in three hours, and back home to Tassie to celebrate christmas and new years. Who knows what 2006 will bring. All that is certain is that on the morning of the 9th of January 2006 I'll be back in Bangkok. A place I always seem to feel lost in, due most likely to that fact I'm always here in a kind of transitional phase.

It's time to chill out for a while. And recover from the unrelenting onslaught that was Cambodia!
