I am on the 8:30 AM bus to Montevideo. I had read in other blogs that it is disappointing so I only plan to spend a few hours there then head to Punto del Este. That was plenty of time. There are a few colonial buildings to see. It is similar to BA but lacking its depth.

A 2 hour trip takes me to Punto del Este. It is Friday, right in the middle of their summer. This is the spot for people from BA to enjoy the beach. Limited hotel space results in very few low priced hotels. I expect everything to be full but my first choice is available. At 6, I have enough time to walk along the beach. It has a reputation for being the haven for the young crowd so seeing lots of families was surprising. Still many great bodies with the Brazilian bikini common. The temperature is nice, gets very cool at night.

I pick up a liter of beer and crackers (late dinners are hard) and enjoy them from my hotel's roof where I watch the sunset over the beach.

Many restaurants along the waterfront but they are spread out. The first 2 are packed. The others are virtually empty. It is 10:30. Rather than go to the cool looking but empty ones, I head back to the first, The Blue Cheese. 45 minute wait but excellent lasagna (with blue cheese). Lots of families who know each other. When I leave at 12:30 there is still a wait. I head back to the hip places which are now full. Do they just get a late start or is it overflow when the popular places are full? They are in a café mode. No bar scene and no dance music. I believe that these are at least some of the clubs.
