I am starting to get into the 11 AM start time groove. We are going for bagels every morning at Bohemia Bagels around the corner. Very good but bagel sandwich and coffee is $8, pricey for what was supposed to be an inexpensive city.
Today is a focus on museums. Prague has several really good ones. We start by taking the tram to Strahov Monastery and Library. Since there is a service in progress, we only get to see the Library which has 1 of its 2 rooms under reconstruction. It is interesting seeing so many old books in a picturesque setting. We walk through a park to Lookout Tower, a miniature of the Eiffel Tower but situated on top of the highest hill around. Unbelievable views.
Loreta is one of the main attractions. Very pretty courtyard but its main attraction is that of its religious significance as a pilgrimage site.
We hit a branch of the National Gallery focused on Baroque Art. It is clear that Sharon has limited interest so we make it quick. It is housed in a beautiful old building just outside the castle. Next is the Sternberk Palace Art Museum which houses the Old Masters collection. Sharon opts to work on postcards while I tour the museum. Interesting collection but not enough time before closing to go very deep.
BTW, many sites have multiple names and/or spellings depending on the guidebook. Presumably some are in Czech, others in English and possibly in other languages as well. This is a frequent occurrence including for countries and cities. For example, Prague is Praha locally.
For dinner, we go back to our favorite restaurant. Sharon orders ribs. It is the 3rd time in 5 nights that one of us has had ribs. They are so good and very cheap.
