This morning we got off to and early start ( with our passports) I guess 6 am is morning rush our, we were leaving Quy Nhon and everyone was coming in to work for the day, it felt like we were fish swimming up stream. We were making good time and everything was going well, then about 100 km out of town, my bike lost power and died, but it was just another burnt out spark plug, so we changed it and were on our way in 5 minutes. I guess if my bike kills a spark plug every 700 km I can't really complain. It's a fairly long drive to Hoi An, and supposedly there's a Typhoon somewhere near Hong Kong that was making it rain, but it was warm and sunny all day, so we were lucky and missed all the rain. Spending all that time on my bike has given me lots of sun, I thought 9 months in Australia would prepare me, but a few days ago I bought some spf 81 sunscreen, and for some reason I'm always covered with more road grime than Mike at the end of the day. We made a slight detour to visit the sight of the 1968 My Lai massacre which was just off the main road, they have the remains of the village preserved with the names and ages of the people who died in each house, and the whole area is a well tended garden with flowers and shrubs, its very peacefull and pretty, almost the ideal place for a picknik, its not very propaganda-y as it doesn't need to be, nor is it hatefull, it just states the facts and hopes for a better future. After that we had lunch and made it to Hoi An before 3pm, our most efficient day, with the least amount of problems yet. We are still on the coastal hwy, which is pretty much THE road in Vietnam, so there are everything from HUGE trucks to oxcarts on the road, sometimes traffic is insane (watching some of these driving moves, I really don't know what is going thru their head) you just kind of have to detach yourself from it and get thru it rather than focus on the bus that just cut you off with 3 inches to spare. Anywho a few days in Hoi An to rest and relax before heading off again.
