Ok, well I am having fun in all the cities I visit, but if you want to hear about the destinations you will have to see me after I rotate back to the world, this blog is about the journey BETWEEN the cities.
So I finally figured it out, Mike and I are driving the equivalent of a beat up 1972 Volkswagon Beetle, everyone had one or knew someone who had one back in the day, and they bring smiles to peoples faces, but they wouldn't use one as a daily driver now. That's about the reaction we get wherever we go.
So we left Nha Trang on time and headed out, the traffic was pretty bad for the first little while, but then it eased up a bit, we are following the coastline north, and every few miles we come around a bend and there is a perfect little bay with a fishing village and a nice beach, then the road winds inland to get around a mountain and we are surrounded by rice paddies, it wasn't a bad drive, would have been a bit nicer with a little less traffic. Anywho, we got about 50km outside of Nha Trang and I notice something hanging off mikes bike so I tell him to pull over, it turns out some of the bolts holding his rear brakes have vibrated loose, so we get that straitened out and his clutch isn't working right, there's a couple of kids riding their bikes near by and the one knows where a mechanic is that will work on minsk motorbikes. Mikes bike limped the 5km to the mechanic, and we pay the kid $5 for leading us there.
While Mike was getting his bike repaired I went for a walk around town, I found this amazing catholic church.
The mechanic replaced a foot rest, got a new brake connecting rod, adjusted the clutch, tightened the exhaust, and took it for a test drive for only $1. I think he liked the bike and wanted to help us on our journey.
We headed out and after another hour stopped for gas and I saw a pig and goats at the gas station.
We drove a few more miles and were almost exactly half way between the two cities, and we realize that we forgot our passports at the last hotel ( you have to give the hotel your passports when you check in so they can register with the police), there was some confusion over the bill and by the time we got it sorted we forgot them. So, we phoned the hotel and they said they could mail them to our next hotel. So we continued on.
We made it into Quy Nhon just fine and the hotel owner suggested we have the other hotel put our passports on the next bus leaving as that would be quicker and more reliable than the post. so we agreed and we had our passports back by the next morning. we will definitely be more careful in the future!!
