With 3 full days to fill in the midst of the tea plantations, in the rain, we had to start using our imaginations as to how we could entertain the children.  In India the boys watched a couple of episodes of Bear Grylls' "Man versus Wild", or "Born Survivor" as it is known in the UK, and are now hooked on the show, seeing Bear Grylls as a hero of all things adventurist.  So, we decided to produce our own version of the show - "Kids versus Wild".

The first episode took place amongst the tea plantations right by the hotel, then we did a second episode while partaking in a very interesting tour of the local tea factory.  It kept the children captivated, and they found it almost as interesting as we did.  Tea goes from bush to black tea, ready for auction, in just 24 hours, and is a simple process involving some beautiful old machines, some of which are over 70 years old.  All the tea factories are government-owned now, and, whilst the workers are still only paid $4.50 per day, they do receive a monthly salary and a house on the estate.

Having done many walks around the tea plantations we discovered one of the pitfalls of being a tea picker:  leaches.  The wet weather brought them out in droves, and I had to quickly get over my own phobia of them to ensure that we didn't have all 3 children freaking out every time we stepped out of the door.  They did really well - even Zach (!) - as each walk involved removing at least 5 or 6 leaches.
