After 8 weeks in India we finally found what we had been searching for:  a playground and some great backpacker cafes where we could have a coffee and watch the world go by.  So, we made the most of it, going out for lunch, dinner and coffees and spending considerable time in the playground which, while decrepid, did serve a purpose and had a nice view of the harbour.

There was a great fish market right in the centre of town where you could buy a fish then ask a local restaurant to cook it for you.  We had superbly fresh calamari and white snapper under a tarpaulin in a shack with plenty of rustic charm.  We were shocked and saddened, though, to see that Indians catch baby reef sharks and hammerhead sharks, proudly displaying them alongside all the usual prawns, squid, bream etc etc.

Fort Cochin proved to be an excellent place to end our Indian adventure: It was relaxed and touristy enough for us to feel at ease wandering around and enjoying the shops, restaurants and harbourside, and our hotel was wonderfully positioned overlooking the water so we could enjoy the bustle of the port without needing to go too far from our sun loungers during the hot afternoons. Shame that thanks to the hotel pool, Georgie and Benji now have a green tinge to their blonde locks, and Jamie has distinctly greeny-grey highlights.....!

8 weeks, thousands of kilometres on terrible roads, hundreds of curries between us and one too many Forts but we survived ! Most people that know India thought we were a bit mad to go with a small family and those that don't know India, thought we were totally mad! Honestly, I think their advice was bang on right. But we had a great time so farewell India and thank you.
