Middle Lagoon was our destination on our first day of our 4-day test drive of our new vehicle.  It took us a good few hours to get packed up and all our luggage on the roof-rack, but we left with great excitement that tonight we would be camping properly, in tents, on the beach.  Jamie and Zach loved the whole adventure, climbing up the ladder of the 4x4 to help Brad load us up.

Middle Lagoon is a small aboriginal community with a campsite and a couple of really cool beach shelters, one of which our travel agent kindly booked us.   The beach was truly one of the most beautiful we've seen:  a pristine semicircle of white sand fringing a calm beautiful clear lagoon.

Benjamin and I went for a walk, picking up pretty shells to put in his truck, while the big boys helped Brad out with the tents and unloading the vehicle.

Time quickly caught up with us, and before we knew it sunset had come and gone, the light was fading and we found ourselves frantically trying to get organised - and the kids fed - before we had to rely on our head torches.

The combination of camping and sand was tricky with a one year old to say the least, and I am not ashamed to admit I lost my sense of humour by the time the night was through.  Benjamin was freaked out by the dark so didn't eat or sleep well, and Zach is always scared of the dark in the best of places, so I spent the latter part of the night wedged on my side in between our 2 youngests.  And there was sand everywhere!

When my sense of humour had just about returned sometime mid-morning on Monday, we had a really nice play on the beach, swimming in the water while poor Brad had to dismantle everything again ready to head to Cape Leveque.  We have quickly concluded that camping for just 1 night in any destination is a bit tough - even the bigger boys are not really old enough to be properly useful, and I am often tied up with Benjamin - which leaves Brad as the sole person in charge of un-packing and packing up.  Not easy. Hopefully Cape Leveque, where we've booked accommodation will be easier....
