Today we returned from the Sunshine Coast to Sydney. We're picking up the campervan tomorrow so we have less than 24 hours to do a whole manner of jobs:  get new shoes for Benjamin and Zach, try and get hair cuts, collect a ton of stuff we left at the concierge desk at Finger Wharf, re-pack our stuff, organise a bag to go back to the UK and of course say our final goodbyes to Lucy, Nick and Tom.   Our final night in Sydney was spent at the Swiss Grand Resort overlooking Bondi Beach, in a fabulous big family room complete with essential black leather sofa.  We soon turned the place into a complete and utter bomb site.

By early evening we were feeling probably a little over-confident about the day ahead tomorrow so decided to squeeze in one thing that we hadn’t managed to do during our stay in Sydney:  early evening drinks at Icebergs overlooking Bondi Beach.  But of course this meant taking the kids….not quite the original plan.  In fact we were joined by Tom, Nick and Lucy which meant 4 little boys under the age of 7 in one of Sydney’s poshest restaurants.  But they behaved pretty well and we all enjoyed lovely gin and tonics and snacks before Tom and Nick headed home leaving us and Lucy to have dinner.  It was a really nice way to end our time in Sydney and say goodbye to a wonderful and treasured friend.

The only one big problem hanging over our heads as we leave Sydney is an argument with the landlord of the apartment where we are staying – they are claiming that we dyed all their sheets pink, a ridiculous claim, and something we quite clearly didn’t do.  It’s a real shame as in all other respects our stay in Sydney was fantastic.

We are leaving with great memories of a fabulous city and an amazing quality of life.  Those of you who live there are very lucky indeed!  Who knows when we will be back...maybe the kids will return on their gap years after school of university.....
