The boys and I arrived back in the UK on 6th Jan. I dropped them off with my sister and went to the hospital where Mary is making solid progress. Katherine and Bryn have been at her bedside as much as doctors, procedures and children would allow which has been a great help to Mary.

Mary came off the ventilator late on the 6th, the last apparatus of life support attached to her body, and has been progressing extremely well since then. Whilst not exactly her first words, shortly after gaining full consciousness, and the ability to talk, Katherine got told faintly but firmly to go home and be with her family.

Mary is now on a ward and while we are not fully out of the woods yet; Mary is still very vulnerable; there may yet be side effects; and even a speedy recovery will take some considerable time, the fact that Mary is now making derisory and comical remarks about the other patients on the ward and the general state of nursing care, is only good news as far as we are concerned.

Sorry to hear about this guys. Still, you made the right call and are where you should be. Progress sounds good though, so hopefully only a brief interlude. Also brings about the chance of a beer doesn't it??

Gosh, thats a difficult start, hope all is improving. Julie and I were talking about you today in the chilly school playground, thinking you'd be basking in the sun! I hope you plans run smoothly from here and Mary is on the mend x

Hi Guys

We are glad that Mary is making a good recovery and she is now on a ward. We have everything crossed for you all and I'm sure it wont be long until you can start the trip again.

I met your Notgrove tenants at the weekend. They seem nice. He asked to play tennis. So will let you know how that goes........

Love to all.
