We left early in the morning and thanks to a little parting gift from Myanmar, I spent the entire three hour flight and most of the day puking. Myanmar 2- Izzy 0.

We were so lucky to be collected from the airport by Hoey Teing Lim, the sister of my friend Chou Phay, whom I was at medical school with. She is an absolute saviour and takes Jon off to buy anti-vom medicines whilst I chunder in the shopping centre restrooms.
Hoey shows us the Pavillion shopping mall and explains that it is rammed almost all the time as shopping and eating are Malaysian national sports and the industrial aircon provides a welcome relief from the humidity and heat outside.

It's a bit of a culture shock moving to KL and I can start to see why people from poor countries such as Myanmar, leading simple lives would be totally overwhelmed with western culture. I feel totally overwhelmed.

As a birthday treat, Jonny booked a room in the luxury Shangri La Hotel which is utterly amazing. We have been upgraded to a junior suite, the square footage of which is over half the size of our house! I cannot believe how much I have missed a warm bath and hair conditioner and Jon is delighted to find mayonnaise in the safety of golden arches.

Just as I was getting really tired of carrying my raincoat, we experience the first rain for a month and my god it is torrential, the sort of rain that leaves one soaked to the bone in seconds. It is oddly soothing and surprisingly warm. After the dust of Myanmar I think I've missed a little precipitation.

Hi Izzy, we arrive in KL mid April for a few days, anything we should know or beware of? We will be flying in from Indonesia. Got stacks of KL. ( Kaolin and Morphine) xx
