Where I stayed
So we're back in Yangon before flying on to Malaysia tomorrow. We're staying in a hotel room which can only be described as a hobbit hole. Standing upright with no shoes on, my head touches the ceiling. It's so comical, we couldn't refuse it. I just hope Jon doesn't get up in the night and forget where he is!
We spent the afternoon walking around the downtown area which we missed last time. I am struck by what impressive architecture is hidden behind the dirty street facades. The buildings are stunning early 20th century colonial examples but almost all of them have fallen into disrepair with trees and shrubs growing out of the masonry and satellite dishes screwed to the walls. They still have their original windows and seeing the few that have been cared for makes me realise the potential of this area.
You can say what you like about the British in the days of the empire, we did build some mighty fine buildings.
