Tuesday had the best weather in terms of sunlight and a little wind, but the temperature did not stray above 6 degrees.

We contined our DIY walking tour and headed up Mount Royal. It is a public park on part of the hill on the island. To get to the park we walked through the campus of McGill University which seemed to have departments and faculties spread out all over that part of town. Its been voted as one of the most beautiful uni campuses in the world and it was easy to see why.

As we went along the walking trails, we enjoyed the scenery and spied squirrels going about their business. Their cuteness hasn't worn off on me yet. As we were heading up the hill...all I could think of was that I didn't need the gym yet! My clothes still fit and my recovery rate was acceptable...lol!

The panoramic views were worth the walk up the mountain. Apparently, in 1954, many trees were cut down to try to “discourage immorality” in the underbrush, which is why so few of the park’s trees are more than half a century old. Thought that might wake some of you up!

There was a fellow there who was obviously doing some sort of film....lets say his subject was dressed....oddly. See for yourself. I would have tried to film him when he stood up but...I don't think it would have been appreciated. I guess having half an animal costume on is better than nothing at all on a day that was not going anywhere past 6 degrees.....

Anyway, we walked some more and came across a cross sculpture. Apparently it is illuminated at night and it can be seen from 80km away. Its a real pity that there was graffiti all over the base. We could walk right up to it, walk around it, but unfortunately, not up it. The views would have been spectacular. I have to reveal something personal here....my feet were ...freezing after all that walking outside in the park and pounding the streets. Weird right?!

I had my new Canadiens beanie on to keep the top of my head and ears warm-too bad for the beanie hair. I bought it in readiness for the ice hockey match that we were going to watch that night. I got a team themed toque (did you like that unintended alliteration??!!)

By the way did you know that beanies are known as toques here in Canada? Now you do. Oh..its pronounced as 'toke'.

I had also invested in $5 gloves from Walmart with fancy thread on the thumb and fingers to allow the use of the smart phone, texting etc (and yes we tested it and it worked!)

So...those extremities were sorted...but as I had a pair of shoes and socks not designed for the cold....my tootsies were very uncomfortable....Warm thick socks were required and shoes that would offer some protection. If any of you have been to the snow or skiing you may know what I mean...in some ways this was unexpected but I should have known better. Anyway....enough whinging.

We went back down the side of the mountain and walked through parts of the underground city. Its just a network of tunnels linking a number of city blocks together with lots of shops along the way. Its so that you can avoid any inclement weather outdoors. Very easy to get lost as there was very limited signage and their maps aren't the best. We started exploring (code for lost) through the walkways and eventually end up on Rue St Catherine...the main shopping street. We were now on familiar territory. Phew!

That night we head back to Centre Bell to watch an ice hockey match. The Canadiens, the home team, are playing the Dallas Stars. I bought the most expensive beer ever (unintentionally...sigh) to see what a Coors Light tasted like....don't worry I've kept the empty can as a souvenior. We sat up in the nose bleed section. I think we had only two rows behind us before it was the roof. So..a very different perspective from what we had on Sunday night, when we would have been sitting on the ice.

I didin't fall asleep this time and the home team won! Hoorah!
