It's 50 minutes to go before Hannah & Chiera finish their first musical. Gabe & I are sitting in the middle of Times Square just watching thousands mill around. Here's a picture looking out to part of the crowd at 9.45 on Friday night. It was busier last night at 12 am.
BTW, as some of the theatres here don't have lobbies, they queue outside. There is a picture of the line outside the Nederlander Theatre where the girls were watching Newsies about an hour before the show. Who needs lobbies right?
The billboards here are amazing.
All the lights and ads make it seem like daylight.
So....what did we do today you may ask?
After another sleep in, we took the subway uptown to the American Museum of Natural History. If you don't know this place think either Ben Stiller or the movie, Night at the Museum.
The stuffed animals and dioramas didn't impress me and the backgrounds and landscapes were too stylised for my liking and I guess a bit dated.
The things that impressed me most were the displays on the evolution of man and the dinosaurs. It was weird to see the skeletons of Lucy and the Hobbit in the same room.
As for the display of Australian birds....there was one window. They had the scrawniest kookaburra I've seen in a while, a couple of lorikeets and a lonely magpie. All we needed was a crow and we would have felt at home.
Whilst the girls watched Newsies we wnt wondering out to Bryant Park and Grand Central Station.
Will add more photos when we get a chance to dowload photos from the 'Real' camera and not from an ipad or ipod.....this means you will have to keep checking back dear reader! I'll try to remember to let you know when I do it.
Something I learnt today? Did you know that because they aren't sure whether stegasaursus walked with their feet splayed to the side or with their feet (or is it paws?) pointing straight ahead that they have both positions on display? The adult has it splayed, and the baby has it straight.
Keep that one for trivia night too!
