Well we headed to Malaysia via another fabulous night train with at some point connecting to a bus. Our destination was Kuala Lumpar. When arriving I quickly realized that for one, Malaysia is way too expensive, for two its America's mini me, well but all muslims and three we are in the rainy season.
The first day there we found ourselves in a massive shopping center bigger and nicer the anything you would find in spokane. I would say it is comparable to something in Vegas. So all in one day I had a frappacino from starbucks, soft pretzel from aunties, a donut from Donkin Donuts (Heidi you could survive here:), ate at Chili's (really it was exactly like home nothing different) and watched the new Harry Potter at the movie theater. Although it was quite weird to walk out of the movies and see a DVD store selling a pirated copy of the movie you just saw for less then you just paid to see it in the theater, but that's Asia for you. And I must say I was quite sick to my stomach after all the crap food. It really made me realize how horrible our chain store food is for you. But I could not resist after all I really have not seen anything like this for months.
Besides our shopping mall experience we did manage to see the Patronas towers, which were supposedly the highest towers in the world. But we did find out later that some place in Taiwan recently build something higher. I have to admit they are quite impressive. If anyone has seen the movie entrapment, the scene where whatever her name is hanging off some really massive buildings well that's the Patronas towers.
As for the country itself the people are extremely nice and they are actually quite fond of Americans (usually not the case in Asia), but they still hate our president (as does every foreign person I have ever meet). I really feel like I could be in a city in the states. The whole Muslims thing is a new experience I must say. Even though Malaysia is a very liberal Muslim country it is still odd see all the women wearing the traditional wear. But at the same time you see them working at a shop in the mall like the billabong store where they mainly sell bathing suits, shorts and tank tops. I don't think you would see that in Iran. Or two Malaysians walking down the street and one is completely covered head to toe and the other is wearing shorts and a tank top... humm very odd.
While it is a nice city it is just way to expensive, so for that reason we must leave.
We actually had plans to fly to Bali for new years but my friend got a little freaked out due to some warning posted about kidnapping, more bombings, and bla bla bla just more terrorist bull shit. But never the less she had a bad feeling and since this entire trip has been really based off fate, destiny, chance encounters, or whatever you want to call it, we decide to head back up towards Thailand. I will miss Chili's though. Yeah another bus ride up from where we just came from!!!!!!!!
