I left my mom's, where I had spent the night, early and headed for the Wat Thai DC Buddhist Temple in Silver Spring, MD for their Songkran celebration. Songkran is a celebration of Thai New Year. The way it's celebrated in Thailand is people dowse each other with water but in Maryland it's celebrated mostly with a food festival.

I've been to Songkran at Wat Thai before but it wasn't the same this time.  First, I've parked on the street near the temple before but this time I had to park at a nearby Metro parking lot and catch a shuttle.  Then when I arrived I found that they're building a new building and much of the space normally used for the event was blocked off due to the construction.  As a result, there were just a fraction of the usual number of vendors, which resulted in huge lines for the few that were there.

I waited through one line.  I thought I was going to be able to order both a Papaya Salad and a Mango and Sticky Rice but, unfortunately, I could only order the Papaya Salad.  I waited through another huge line for the Mango and Sticky Rice.  It took two hours to get the two items.  I had enough of waiting in line after that so I caught a shuttle to the Metro parking lot and headed home.  It was really disappointing this year.
