I went to The Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour in Everett, WA (near Seattle, WA) today. The Future of Flight Aviation Center has exhibits showing turbine engines and plane construction and information about many passenger planes from the last 50 years. 

While some of these exhibits were interesting, the big draw is the Boeing Tour.  This is the only aircraft production facility that you can tour in the U.S.  The Boeing plant in Everett was first built for 747 production.  The building has since been expanded for production of the 767, 777 and 787 model aircraft.  It is now the largest building by volume on Earth. 

The areas to which you are taken on the tour are two or three floors above the production floor.  It gives you a broad overview of the plant but you aren't close enough to see much of anything in detail. 

Boeing is very concerned about proprietary information.  You are not allowed to bring any electronics of any kind on the tour and we were told that the same rules apply to the employees.  They don't want to take any chances that someone might take pictures.  It's hard to see what they're concerned about.  Their production line didn't look that advanced, at least to the casual observer.  There wasn't a single robot in sight.

When I left The Future of Flight Aviation Center I went to The HerbFarm for dinner. It's on The Daily Meal's 101 Best Restaurants in America list for 2012 as well as Gayot's Top 40 list for 2012.  Before dinner you can tour their wine cellar and library.  Then someone gives a presentation on some of the herbs that will be in the dinner and the history of the restaurant.  The HerbFarm started out as just an herb farm.  They still grow their own herbs but, over the years, the restaurant evolved into what it is today.

I was seated at a communal table.  We were introduced to the entire staff and several people spoke throughout dinner to tell us about what we were eating.  I was there for the first night of their Truffle Treasure Menu, a nine-course dinner that featured both French and Pacific Northwest truffles.  It was a very enjoyable meal.
