I woke up to a miserable day.  It was cold and rainy.  I found a place for breakfast and then caught a subway to the Brooklyn Museum.  The entrance to the museum is very close to the subway exit so at least I didn't need to walk around in the rain for very long.

As has been the case at a number of museums, a large show closed recently and the new show hasn't opened yet.  In this case, it's opening tomorrow.  Frustrating.  I have plenty to see though.  At 560,000 square feet housing roughly 1.5 million works, the museum is the second largest art collection in New York City.

I wandered around checking out their collection.  They're well-known for their expansive collections of Egyptian and African art but they also have extensive collections of 17th to 20th century paintings, sculpture and decorative arts throughout a wide range of schools.  One thing that surprise me were rooms and, in some cases, the complete houses that had been disassembled, moved into the museum and re-assembled, furnished with either period pieces or their original contents.

Surprisingly, I finished the museum before closing time.  I took the subway back to Times Square.  The weather had cleared up so I took some pictures before heading for dinner.

I had a reservation at Jean-Georges, which was one of the 12 restaurants on Restaurant Magazine's World's Best Restaurants List in 2010 and one of the 15 on the 2011 list.  It dropped from number 52 to number 62 but it moved up from 9th in the U.S. to 8th.

Unfortunately, eating vegetarian wasn't really possible.  The vast majority of the menu items are seafood.  I ordered the 7-course Autumn Menu with a substitution or two but I still had some meat.

My first course was Egg Toast.  I can't say I liked it.  Fortunately, I thought everything after that was very good.

I walked back to my hotel and went to bed.
