I checked out of my hotel in Bar Harbor and headed for Augusta to visit the Maine Capitol or Maine State House as they prefer to refer to it.  Like most state capitols, it's a neo-classical,stone, symmetrical building with a central dome.  I'm told that the original design of the building most closely resembles the Massachusetts Capitol since Charles Bulfinch was the architect of both but the building has been remodeled four times so the resemblance isn't that close now.

I wandered around and took pictures.  They offer tours but I wasn't there at the right time to take one.  After touring the capitol I headed downstairs to a tunnel that runs to the Cross Office Building.  There are four dioramas depicting Maine wildlife in each of the seasons.  They were created by Klir Beck and were originally installed in the State House.  I had been told there was a museum downstairs.  I thought that the person who told me must have been referring to the dioramas and a few other artworks.  I've since found out that there is a Maine State Museum nearby but it is not along the tunnel or in the Cross Office Building.  I wish the directions I had been given were more accurate.  I'm sorry I missed it.

I drove to Portland, ME and found a hotel.  I decided to try Fore Street for dinner.  I found it listed as number 68 on a list of the 101 Best Restaurants in America list on The Daily Meal web site.  It turned out to be a seafood restaurant so it was difficult to find anything vegetarian on their menu.
