With good weather still forecast for the next day, I finally checked out of my hotel in Idaho Falls and headed for Borah Peak, the highest point in Idaho. Borah Peak is frequently hiked in a single day but it's a tough hike with over 5,200 feet of elevation gain. I decided I'd do it over two days. The biggest problem is that there is no water available on the hike so I'd need to carry enough water for two days.
I got to the trailhead a little later than I would have liked, quickly loaded my backpack and headed up the mountain. I got up around 1,000 feet, about half way to where I intended to camp, and realized I had forgotten something critical. I hiked back to the car. It was too late by then to hike back up so I drove to MacKay and got a room for the night.
