Before leaving South Lake Tahoe I thought I'd do a little sightseeing. I drove to Emerald Bay and wandered around for a while before heading for Camp Mather the site of the Mycological Society of San Francisco mushrooming foray I'll be going on for the weekend.

I got to Camp Mather in time for dinner. I've gone on a few forays with MSSF before so I know some of the members but I hadn't met most of the people on this foray before.  I spent most of the evening getting to know the other foray participants.

In the morning we broke up into several groups and went out looking for morels. There haven't been any fires in the area, which cause morels to fruit the following spring, so the group I was with checked some disturbed areas, which also cause morels to fruit but not as predictably as fires. The weather has been a bit cool so the morels are a bit late this year.  The reports weren't encouraging but I did better than I expected and found about a pound and a half, which I stuck in the dehydrator and dried to preserve.
