I woke up soon after dawn.  In the dim light, I noticed spots on the pillow.  I turned on a light and discovered they were blood spots.  After more checking, I discovered that two of the spots were bed bugs.

Unfortunately, I've found bed bugs in a hotel room before but, on the plus side, at least I already knew how to deal with the problem.  I called around to find an auto body shop that had a paint oven and that would bake my car.  Since it was Saturday, it wasn't easy to find one but I eventually one agreed.  Then I got a change of clothes out of the car, packed them in freezer bags, took a shower, packed the clothes I had been wearing into freezer bags, loaded everything from the room into the cargo box I have mounted on my trailer hitch, went to the motel office and demanded my money back and headed for the body shop.

Bed bugs die at around 110 degrees.  I took everything out of the cargo box, spread it around the car where it would get good airflow and had everything baked at around 150 degrees for a couple hours.  This was probably overkill, since I'll be heading to the desert shortly but at least I don't have to worry about spreading them myself in the mean time.  It cost me $200, which the motel didn't help cover, and several hours to take care of the problem.

I then drove to Keystone, CO, where I have a reservation for the next three weeks at a condo at the base of the Keystone ski area.  It was warm and there was very little snow until I got into the mountains in Summit County, which are fairly high.  It didn't look encouraging for spring skiing.

No artwork before the baking? You need some bedbugs painted on the side and x'd off , like the WWII fighters had enemy kills on their airplanes...
